107.3 began as WANS on August 1st, 1963. WANS flipped from Top 40 to Adult Contemporary-formatted WWMM as Magic 107.3 in February 1991 after the station was sold to new owners. In 1994, due to low ratings and facing competition from WMYI and WSPA-FM, the Adult Contemporary format was dropped. 107.3 WWMM changed format and call letters to Urban Contemporary as "107.3 JAMZ", WJMZ. WJMZ carried the station slogan, "The Peoples' Station" until 2003, in which it changed to "Today's R&B" -- and re-tooled its format to Urban Adult Contemporary (almost dropping hip hop entirely), as Hip-Hop and Urban was already covered by sister station WHZT, allowing the stations to co-exist more comfortably. However, in summer 2008, WJMZ slowly re-added hip hop back into the playlist mixture and expanded back to Urban Contemporary. Only "hip hop" is not mentioned in the slogan unlike most urban outlets elsewhere to reduce the current negative connotations of the genre to retain a community approach.

They also recently added the addition slogan to the moniker, "50 Minutes of Music Every Hour", a slogan on other Cox Radio owned radio stations.
